Yay, my book is finally here! Five years in the making. Throughout the years, as I became more and more comfortable and clear on the message I wanted to share, my story transformed into the profound lessons these rescued dogs were here to teach me... each with their own lesson of healing.
I am not sure why people have this idea that dogs from humane societies or shelters are not well-behaved or that something is wrong with them. I have experienced the opposite and remained amazed by their grace and gratitude. I would actually hear the words “thank you, thank you, thank you” when I took them away from the dark concrete cage at a shelter that was planning on euthanizing them just days later. You would feel their sincere love and instant trust, even after all the trips to the veterinarian clinics, grooming and baths imposed onto them. Cesar Milan, a well-known dog trainer and known to most as “The Dog Whisperer” whose mission is to promote rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of dogs says that, “People are reluctant to adopt shelter dogs because of certain preconceived notions about them.” He debunks five common myths about shelter dogs in the following article. https://www.cesarsway.com/get-involved/shelters/top-5-myths-about-shelter-dogs My goal is to offer Animal Shelters and Humane Societies the opportunity to use this book as a fundraiser to raise both money and awareness for shelter dogs.
